What is DIAKONIA ?

DIAKONIA is a World Federation of Diaconal Associations and Communities. Legally DIAKONIA is a foundation and is domiciled in the Netherlands.

Who may become a member of DIAKONIA ?

Membership of DIAKONIA is open to associations and communities of deaconesses, diaconal sisterhoods and brotherhoods, and organisations of diaconal ministers and church workers. Applications go to the executive committee via the regional president.

What is the basis of DIAKONIA ?

DIAKONIA is called by the Lord of the Church, Jesus Christ, to the service of reconciliation in the world with the word of faith and the action of love.

What are the aims of DIAKONIA ?

• to further ecumenical relationships among diaconal associations and diaconal communities;
• to reflect on the nature and task of diaconia in the Biblical sense;
• to further a sense of diaconia in the churches and congregations;
• to strengthen fellowship among members and to render mutual help;
• to undertake common tasks.
